The Hasbrouck Heights (7-2) football team enters Friday night's state playoff game with a two-game losing streak after falling to Pompton Lakes, 37-8, on Friday, Nov. 9.
The Aviators, the fifth seed, will take on Butler (8-1), the fourth seed, Friday night Butler Athletic Complex in Group 1 North 1 state playoffs.
Despite the score Hasbrouck Heights was only two scores behind at the start of the fourth quarter. The Aviators missed chances to score in Pompton Lakes territory. Heights defense could not stop Pompton Lakes quarterback Robbie Meyers who threw for three touchdowns that broke the back of the Aviators. Heights was fired up after A.J. Traina took a kickoff return 78 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter that sliced the Cardinals lead to two scores.
Hasbrouck Heights needs to rebound and bring its A game after losing back-to-back games to Palisades Park and Pompton Lakes the last two weeks. The Aviators defense needs to stop Butler quarterback Chris Heredia who can air it out. The Aviators running game also needs to rebound with backs Anthony Seidel and A.J. Traina, both have been contained the last two weeks. A big game from quarterback Darren Iurato would point to an upset of the Bulldogs.
