Aviators Stun Bulldogs, Cedar Grove Next

BUTLER, N.J. - Hasbrouck Heights ended its two-game losing streak in a big way on Friday as the Aviators shocked Butler, 34-13, in the first round of the Group 1 North state sectional football playoffs.

      Heights, the fifth seed, take their show on the road again as they take on top-seeded Cedar Grove in two weeks, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in the sectional semi-finals. The winner goes on to most likely MetLife Stadium for the sectional final the following week.

      The Aviators built a 20-0 lead to stun the hosts and held off a small comeback in the second half.

      Heights junior quarterback Darren Iurato threw for a pair of touchdowns, both in the first half and senior running backs Anthony Seidel and A.J. Traina ran for a touchdown each. Traina and tight end James Fitzsimmons caught a touchdown each in the victory.

      With the win the Aviators raised their record to 8-2 and will go up against a Cedar Grove team that defeated eighth-seeded Belvidere, 41-14, also on Friday night. The Panthers are 9-1 on the season and are the defending Group 1 North 2 champions. With a realignment Cedar Grove moved over to Group 1 North 1.

      Coming into the game Heights was coming off back-to-back losses to Palisades Park and Pompton Lakes, respectively, both are state playoff teams. Pompton Lakes is on the other side of the same Group 1 North 1 bracket.
