Bill Parcells Nominated for NJ Hall of Fame

The former New York Giants coach grew up in Hasbrouck Heights

The New Jersey Hall of Fame has named Bill Parcells, former football head coach who grew up in Hasbrouck Heights, to its list of nominees for the 2013 title.

Parcells has won three Super Bowl titles in his career as a head coach. He formerly was head coach of the New York Giants, the New York Jets and the New England Patriots. He currently serves as an ESPN fooball analyst. Parcells has been recently voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, according to the NJ Hall of Fame website.

On the list of New Jersey Hall of Fame nominees, Parcells joins other New Jersey born sports world celebrities such as Dick Button, of Englewood, a two-time Olympic figure skater and East Rutherford's Sonny Werblin, a builder and manager of the Meadowlands sports complex who at one time owned the New York Jets.

This year the nominations are split into five categories - historical, arts and entertainment, sports, enterprise, and general - for a total of 50 nominees.  Local historical figures include Fort Lee's Alice Guy Blache, President Grover Cleveland of Caldwell, Newark's Aaron Burr among others.

New Jersey actors Eddie Murphy of Englewood, Leonia's Alan Alda, Jersey City's Nathan Lane and Haworth's Brooke Shield have made the arts and entertainment list along with the late Whitney Houston.

The NJ Hall of Fame began 5 years ago with its inaugural class of honorees in 2008. Last year among its honorees were Michael Douglas, the E Street Band and the late Christopher Reeve.
