Crossing Guard OK After Being Grazed by Vehicle, Small Brush Fire on Roosevelt
Police and fire department activity Thursday morning
A crossing guard required medical attention at his post Friday morning when a passing vehicle grazed his arm, Hasbrouck Heights police confirmed.
Officer Ian Robertson of the traffic bureau said the crossing guard, who serves the post at Washington and the Boulevard, is fine and continued on with his post after EMS came to the scene to check on him.
Robertson said a vehicle was making a right from Washington and the side mirror grazed the crossing guard’s arm. The driver claimed to have not seen the crossing guard while making the turn, according to police. The driver was given a summons, Robertson said.
Also early Friday morning, police and volunteer fire department members were called to the scene of a small brush fire on Roosevelt Avenue. According to the police report a discarded Christmas tree on the curbside for collection was on fire and distinguished by the fire department.

People, please slow down. I live on this block and I have seen this poor crossing guard almost get run over many times. They don't get paid enough to put their lives on the line.

I don't know about speed in these cases but I do know that if you're making a right turn and you only concentrate on traffic coming on your left side, you could miss either somebody entering the crosswalk or a biker on the wrong side of the road from your right side.
