Heights' Bernice Family Takes Over Convenience Store

New owners of Nick's Quick Stop sold winning Jersey Cash 5 Lottery ticket in first three weeks.

There are some new faces behind the counter at Nick's Quick Stop.

The Hasbrouck Heights Bernice family has recently taken over the convenience store at the corner of Boulevard and Walter Avenue.

Guy Bernice, who runs the shop with his father Anthony, says plans are in the works to change its name to the Heights Corner Store.

It's still a convenience store but it's offering a whole lot more - it's the only place on the Boulevard where one can buy comic books.

The front right corner of the store now has a rack of all comic books next to a table which the Bernice's set up for patrons to sit back and do their scratch off Lottery tickets.

Guy says there hasn't been a comic book store in town in years. Having grown up in town he fondly remembers getting comics as a kid from Ben's Cars and Comics and Heights Cars and Comics.

Another new addition is hot dogs which they will make fresh anytime.

The store continues to be a hot spot to get Lottery tickets and in recent weeks the Bernice family has been brining some of its patrons a  lot of good luck.

They had been open just three weeks when they sold a Jersey Cash 5 Lottery Jackpot winning ticket awarding $175,767 to a lucky patron, says Guy. He's seen others come in for scratch off tickets and walk out with $100 or $500 in the short time he's been behind the counter.
