Heights Municipal Budget Hearing, First Annual 5K Run This Week

Taking a look at what is to come in Hasbrouck Heights this week.

The borough council will conduct a public hearing Tuesday night on the proposed 2013 municipal budget.

The budget, which was introduced last month, would collect $14,652,541 from tax payers for municipal purposes. The tax levy increase for this year equal 1 tax point which amounts to $35 more for this year for the average homeowner whose house is assessed at  $351,1993.

The borough's chief financial officer Mike Kronyak is expected to give a presentation on the budget and members of the public will be able to comments and inquire about the budget during the public hearing Tuesday.

Also coming up this week

The first annual 5K run and walk, presented by the Health Department and the Juniors Women's Club will take place this coming Sunday, April 28.

The run/walk will take place Sunday morning through the center of town beginning on Central Avenue near Borough Hall. The route will take runners along Oakgrove heading south, then along Henry towards Terrace and then back up north until Lawrence where they will make their way back along Oakgrove finishing at Central Avenue.

In conjunction with the walk/run the Health Department's annual Health Fair will take place in the senior center from 9 a.m. to noon.

Proceeds from the event will go towards local scholarships for graduating seniors. It will also benefit The Seeing Eye, a charity which the Junior Womens Club supports.

Also, the annual Mr. Heights pageant is set for this Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the high school. Once again male students will vie for the title of Mr. Heights in a fun and friendly competition.
