Heights Scouts Volunteer to Help Feed Sandy Victims

Scout troops helped pack baskets of food as part of the Meadowlands Basket Brigade efforts to feed families in Little Ferry affected by Superstorm Sandy.

Hasbrouck Heights Boy Scout Troop 17 were among the many local scouts who volunteered to help in the Meadowlands Basket Brigade helping to pack baskets of food for families in Little Ferry and Moonachie affected by Superstorm Sandy.

The Meadowlands Regional Chamber and its Building & Contractor Services Committee is partnered with Overhead Door Company of the Meadowlands and local Boy Scout troops to bring home an international movement to feed families in need for the New Year holiday.

With help from the local business communities more than $15,000 was raised. On Sunday the scout troops gathered at Overhead Door Company in Lodi to help pack and deliver 200 plus baskets of New Year wishes to local families victimized by Sandy. This was the second event of the Meadowands Basket Brigade as more than 300 baskets of food were delivered at Thanksgiving.

Each basket included a 10-pound chicken, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, apple pie, clementines, brownie mix,  Hershey kisses and New Year holiday decorations. A $42 sponsorship paid all the contents of one basket.  Inside each basket is an anonymous letter that reads, “This comes to you from someone who cares about you. All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day.”
