Next Steps for Boulevard Work Defined

Next steps include the installation of decorative lights by public service, according to the borough's engineer.

The borough is now waiting for public service to come in to install the new decorative lights along the section of the Boulevard which is being upgraded as part of the ongoing .

Borough Engineer Ken Job told borough officials Tuesday the installation of the lights is the next step towards completing the Boulevard work for phases three and four - the area from Jefferson to Franklin to Hamilton.

A timeframe for when the light installation may be expected was not given. Construction of new sidewalks and brick pavers was completed over the past month. This week new trees were planted in that area.

Officials adopted an ordinance Tuesday night which puts the grant funds received from the state Department of Transporation towards the next phase of the project, which will be phase 5 - one block section from Hamilton to Walter. Job said phase 5 work could possibly be conducted next spring or summer. The borough is in the process of applying for grant funding for phase 6 of the Boulevard streetscape project - Walter to Division.

The borough has received state funding towards all the projects which have been worked on to date. The first two phases - Washington to Kipp to Jefferson - were completed about two years ago. Some residual work remains such as the removal of old Cobra lights by public service, which Job says is in the process of being completed.
