The newly formed parent-led advocacy group on behalf of students with special needs will come together Tuesday night for its first official meeting of the school year.

All parents are invited to be a part of the Collaborative Parent Committee which serves as a voice for the more than 200 students in the district identified with special needs, said Chris Peters, who serves as president. 

The committee’s board members are all parents of district students each one representing one of the schools as well as those students who are schooled out of district.

The goal is to provide support to parents of special need students and will ensure these students are getting everything they need as far as education. Another goal is to encourage the acceptance and participation of children with disabilities in the communities.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at the high school media center. The committee will meet on the third Tuesday of each month.
