Police: Driver Accidentally Drove Vehicle Onto Train Tracks

NJ Transit halted trains until the vehicle was cleared from the tracks.

A driver who made a wrong turn onto the train tracks paralleling Route 17 shut down New Jersey Transit traffic on the line, according to Hasbrouck Heights police.

The driver apparently was trying to make a turn from a local roadway and somehow ended up stuck on the tracks instead.

The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. in the area of Malcolm Avenue and Route 17 on the border of Heights and Teterboro. NJ Transit was immediately notified and halted all train traffic on the tracks until the vehicle was cleared, according to Sgt. Kevin Corbliss.

It took police about an hour to remove the vehicle from the tracks.
