Police ID Heights Hit-and-Run Victim as Lodi Man [UPDATE]

A 31-year old Lodi man was the victim of a hit-and-run accident on Williams Avenue. Police believe a 4-door Honda Accord was involved.

UPDATE 3 p.m. - The man who police say was killed in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday has been identified as Vladimir Artavia, 31, of Lodi, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli announced Monday afternoon.

Police believe that Artavia was walking home from Bel Posto Restaurant in Hackensack where he was employed when he was struck on Williams Avenue in Hasbrouck Heights on the Lodi border.

The hit-and-run occured somewhere between 2:15 and 3 a.m. on April 6.  He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police had responded to a 911 call at 3 a.m. reporting a man lying on the east bound side of Williams Avenue near Louis Street, according to release issued Monday.

The search for answers continues as police continue their investigation. Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a 4-door Honda Accord made between 2008 and 2012.

Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is working with the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department on this investigation.
