School Achievements, New of Library Staff Reduction Topped Headlines This Week

Taking a look back on the week of Jan. 15

 

At the start of the week Patch featured a video from Euclid and Lincoln elementary school’s annual anti-drug rally which closed out the Drug Prevention Week activities.

The high school’s Multicultural Club hosted an exhibit on Martin Luther King Day to expose students to each other’s cultures. See the video coverage.

Hasbrouck Heights High School’s Mock Trial team has made it into the semi-quarter final playoffs. The team competed Tuesday night against Indian Hills High School, which was the final match of the regular season. 

A snow removal program involving high school students looking to earn community service credits is available to help those senior residents who have no family or friends nearby to help them shovel during storms.

The Library Board of Trustees addressed the recent staff reduction of two librarians from the public library as a result of increased health care costs and zero budget increases.

The Library Board also began to look ahead into the coming year which will include more fundraising efforts and new programs.

Hasbrouck Heights High School was cited by Bloomberg.com for its use of iPads in its classrooms.

Girl Scout and Daisy troops got a special visit for a fellow scout and her service dog, thanks to the Heights based foundation Mickey’s Kids which raises funds for kids in need of service dogs.

High school administrators addressed parents Thursday night on new electives which will be offered to students in the coming year as well as other technological offerings which help students with career research and preparation.
