Coffeenut, this is true but the 3rd party never can represent themselves with any substance....theyRead More seem to never be able to get any traction and the best they can do is get 3% of the vote...not a very good motivator to go independent so most folks try to fit in as a D or R ..... the tea party had traction but got sideways when they aligned themselves with the republicans or in one sense vice versa..
Mac November 6, 2013 at 05:28 pm
a third-party is nothing more than another citizen excuse to let someone else do what they don'tRead More have what it takes to do themselves - whether there are one, two or more parties available to represent you, if you don't stand up and demand what you want for yourself, someone else will, and currently does with little effort involved - I almost wish President Obama had been born in Kenya - when one grows up with less, they work harder for more - when one already has more, they don't miss it until it's gone
Mike Mazzucca November 8, 2013 at 07:31 am
Mac, you are absolutely correct. Serve people in a third world country and they think that you areRead More God himself. When you think about the very little effort it took to help them you realize how much we truly take for granted. Serve people here they expect more, and believe they are entitled to it. Very little humility. Priorities and values have been distorted to the point that our great grandchildren will never know what a moral compass is, nor true history or anything for that matter, because we have begun to re-write what the majority wants it to be. Sadly, most politicians enter politics for a similar reason, but end up making it a career, to them it's a job. They end up getting de-railed and man-handled into truly the left or right's "ideology & agendas" more so then dealing with the issues at hand. In my mind it's like serving in the military. I don't believe there is any greater honor than to serve there. But it's not a plan B, it's a choice that is deliberate with meaning and purpose. Politics I believe is similar, you choose to serve. Again, most of our politicians believe that once they are elected, it's no longer about the people, but about what their agendas are.

Walter, You were great on "Breaking Bad." // Question for you: What happens when theRead More anarchists take power?
Robert Yates November 5, 2013 at 09:32 am
@J: good point. I am sure both would be equally successful at getting the federal government toRead More print more money so that Seaside Heights could be rebuilt. Vote for the township and county candidates but the state candidates are a waste. @Phil Brooks: that is a trick question. "The word "Anarchy" comes from the ancient Greek ἀναρχία, anarchia, from ἀν an, "not, without" + ἀρχός arkhos, "ruler", meaning "absence of a leader", "without rulers"). While an anarchist may depose a ruler, he would never become one himself, unless he were a hypocrite.

NYC is a very big city with restrictive gun laws and its murder rate is at all time lows. FromRead More huffingtonpost.com: "Homicides in New York City are dropping to the point where if current trends continue, the number of killings could this year sink to lowest levels since the 1950s when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president. NYPD statistics show that in the first six months of 2013, homicides totaled 156, down 25 percent compared with 206 in the same period in 2012, a year in which killings hit the lowest point since the early 1960s. At current levels, the rate of homicides for each 100,000 city residents could drop in 2013 to 3.83, one of the lowest levels since the Korean War. Police caution that changes over the years in the method of calculating homicides make direct comparisons difficult for any period further back than about 1961." Gee, that kind of blows the NRA talking points to hell.
Jim_N October 31, 2013 at 11:38 am
Chicago proves what? That restrictive laws don't stop illegal guns, only legal guns. NYC 's crimeRead More rate has dipped, Stop & Frisk was a large part of that. Frankly I am against that program. Surprised? I am 100% in favor of supporting the rights we are guaranteed. If you want to stop criminals, keep them locked up once you catch them! Stop Catch and Release. With the end of Stop & Frisk < think you will see an increase in crime. Japan has a culture so completely different from ours that comparisons are pointless. They have an incredibly high suicide rate. They have the Yakusa, a group that rivals the Mafia. They have a largely homogeneous society whereas we have in many cases hundreds of diverse groups living in tight quarters. We also have stopped long ago being a melting pot. Nowadays you can do everything in this country except blend in with never speaking the language. want to really help the poor and disenfranchised? Get them to SPEAK ENGLISH. It would allow for communications with each different ethnic group and lessen the fears that gangs use to build their power. this would lessen the crime in these areas.
Brad Schaeffer October 31, 2013 at 02:55 pm
Japan is an awful comparison.

NEW JERSEY IS A WELFARE STATE; WILL DRAIN ANY ECOMOMY; THANKS TO THE VOTE BUYING DEMOCRAPS.......
Al Beronio November 5, 2013 at 04:53 pm
"Failed leadership" is a standard Democratic phrase, used because they have no other validRead More points to raise. I hope the Blogger who posted this absurd recounting of the debate will be kind enough to come back on here after tonight's election results and tell us where this supremely unqualified candidate of her Party went wrong.
Aman77 October 2, 2013 at 11:49 am
I am assuming then that the author is in favor of polygamy being recognized as a legitimate maritalRead More arrangement as well? If two members of the same sex can be "married" then why not three of more of the same or different sexes? How is that any different?
Brian M Kochera October 6, 2013 at 02:18 am
Aman77 Would that REALLY be so bad? Consider serial monogamy where someone marries, divorces, thenRead More marries another and divorces that one, and so on. This way they can marry all at once and take turns with each spouse thereby avoiding divorce altogether! King Salomon, the wise, had many wives...as did King David. It's also in the bible that if your brother dies you are to take his wife into your household as your own and nothing about getting rid of your previous wife. So, isn't that the same thing?
Greg Boyle October 7, 2013 at 10:04 am
Jessica To say that I/man condemns gay marriage is wrong. I trust God's word (the Bible). GodRead More condemns it and God is Love. He has a purpose for male and female covenant marriage. God also says in His word that He hates divorce. So I don't understand your argument. I strongly recommend a good teaching pastor so we all can learn what God's best is for us.

Oh, and what were the figures before he was elected under corrupt Corzine with Buono at his side?
John Kerwin September 28, 2013 at 04:33 pm
Christie has been in office for almost 4 years stop blaming Corzine for his failures. Just compareRead More our economy with our neighbors Can you tell me anything Christie has proposed for his next 4 years? I should say 1 - 2 years because he'll have to resign to run for President. NJ taxpayers will be contributing almost $13 million to his Presidential campaign by paying for the Oct. 16 Senate election - 2 weeks before his own election - just because he didn't want Booker on the same ballot. Where's your outrage with this power grabbing move!
suz September 28, 2013 at 04:47 pm
I do blame Corzine....who the heck do you think got us in to this mess in the first place? NJ hasRead More had liberal Dems in office forever, and they are the ones that 'gave the store away' with their funding to the NJEA and the rise in taxes, just to name a few. We cannot blame Christie for things that were in place long before he was ever elected. Sorry, but Buono scares me....I hope you will feel the same after your health insurance sky rockets and you have to wait weeks before you get a appt with a doctor.
Hookerman September 30, 2013 at 08:12 pm
So does that mean we can presume, Dave and Anthony, that you both support a path to citizenship forRead More illegal aliens??? If not, then how would you expect them to 'become legal'?
Dave September 30, 2013 at 08:50 pm
Hookerman, of course I support a path to be become a citizen. There is a path already.
Joey Joe September 30, 2013 at 08:56 pm
@Hookerman - I don't know where you're going with this but in any case...naturalization is the mostRead More common way that a foreign-born person can try to gain American citizenship. GET RID OF THE MARKET ECONOMY AND BECOME A SOCIALIST ECONOMY AS THE VACUOUS LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVESRead More WANT............................................... The Fabian Socialist Revolution began in earnest in this country in 1933 with the imposition of the Welfare State and has been steadily progressing since.......................................................................................... This can be found in the writings of one of the founders of the Fabian Society, George Bernard Shaw speaking of the Socialist Utopia, he said:......................................... "Under Socialism, you would not be allowed to be poor. You would be forcibly fed, clothed, lodged, taught, and employed whether you liked it or not............................................................. If it were discovered that you had not the character and industry enough to be worth all this trouble, you might possibly be executed in a kindly manner; but whilst you were permitted to live, you would have to live well."....................................................................................... The lifeblood of the socialist system is taxes:..................................................................................... Lenin wrote that "Taxation with its offspring inflation, is the vital weapon to displace the system of free enterprise." .............................................................................................. FDR's alter ego, Harry Hopkins, was famous for the quote "We will tax and tax, spend and spend, elect and elect." Hopkins also said, "This country does not know what real heavy taxation is."................................................................. Welfare is living off the fruits of hard working people. Shame, shame., shame

Left wing. Right wing. Liberal. Conservative. Middle of the road. Democratic Party. RepublicanRead More Party. All these past history terms are misrepresentations of the American political system for at least the past 25 years. Today's major political parties represent a lust for power, greed and corruption without any regard for those voters that believe they and their party-boss hand-picked 'bring home the bacon' candidates represent some value to them. Voters that blindly pull party line levers are the same people who don't know whether they won at Russian roulette or not. With what is currently available on the market for purchase, I'm looking for who is going to work the hardest on my problems. There are no magic answers for our recovery in NJ. Just hard work within the community to rebuild and restructure. Having a Governor in NJ that is more interested in moving to Washington, DC, is only to delay any hope of recovery for another four years.

I did view this Jim. But still an education is much more that getting a job. Skilled tradeRead More men/women are of course valuable contributors to society and are worthy of respect for earning an honest living. We must remember an education is expanding the mind....exploring ourselves and other cultures. Thus making more a tolerant society less prone to creating wars over religion and oil. I feel your pain, truly do but college is an important rite of passage. It does not make one better individually over another, but collectively as a society. Students learn to view both sides and then w/ their own minds decide their paths and form their own opinions. Trades are awesome. So are Unions ;; An informed society knows how to look out for themselves.

As Idealistic as it sounds, that puts the nail in the coffin. Take a walk to your campus library andRead More familiarize yourself with Arnold Toynbee. Jim in Hazlet.......I too watched the Mike Rowe video, it was great and dead on. While higherRead More education is great, it is not for everyone as some may think. Society needs all types of people with all types of skills to survive. Sadly, higher education has become a money train. Maybe the money could be better spent on primary education making the American younger generation more competitive in the global economy.

How many crimes in our state were committed in the past year with a .50 caliber? She has no ideaRead More what she is talking about but ignorant people with vote for her because it seems like she is doing something to stop the next shooting....which this won't! We need more programs for the mentally ill. Basic health plans barely cover anything for them. PS Francesca, if you live at the Shore you should not vote for Buono as her attention will be spent on urban areas of the state as she feels they need more and we need less. She is already proposing increased spending on urban education when they already get more than our school systems (TR, Brick, etc.)
John October 8, 2013 at 12:43 pm
Growing up in a state that is much more pro gun than NJ, I can guarantee the laws here are alreadyRead More strict enough. We don't need any more laws and it's to the point where it only burdens citizens.

Christie's environmental concerns are non-existent His allowance of the pipeline through ourRead More highlands for fracked gas transmission has degraded this resource and left it vulnerable to further pollution and exotic plant invaders like Japanese knotweed. Most workers on this project are not from NJ and no just due compensation was required for additional open space funds or land acquisitions to make up for this temporary fossil fuel energy source. This whole Fracking episode has only curtailed our needed move into the future of renewable energy. WHERE IS CHRISTIE'S VOICE CONCERNING THE REPUBLICAN EXTORTION THROUGH GOVERNMENT SHUT-DOWN?
proud October 8, 2013 at 10:35 am
Never mind the DEMOCRAT EXTORTION THROUGH GOVERNMENT SHUT-DOWN
Mac October 8, 2013 at 12:02 pm
NEVER MIND THE PETTY INCOMPENTENT POLITICAL EXTORTION THROUGH GOVERNMENT SHUT-DOWNDOWN. Just waitRead More for Governor Christie to finish burning his way to DC. He'd take the train but his bathtub overflowed and he flooded $120M worth of them and he can no longer depend on the train fleet to get him there in time. Thus, the boardwalk fire reelection rally. Then the battle cry will be: THERE'S NO GOVERNMENT LEFT OPEN TO CLOSE. IT'S CHRISTIE WORLD! Give me a big hug.
