Spencer Savings Bank Participates in Relay for Life of Garfield, Raising More Than $5,700

Elmwood Park, N.J. (October 23, 2013) – Spencer Savings Bank, a community bank headquartered in Elmwood Park, N.J., participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Garfield and raised more than $5,700 in support of the fight against cancer. Spencer Savings Bank’s team of employees and their family members participated in the overnight event, on Friday, October 4 to Saturday, October 5, 2013, on the Little League Field at 60 Spring Street in Garfield, N.J.

 

Spencer Savings Bank’s team was the second largest fundraising team with more than 30 employees and family members, contributing to the overwhelming success of the $22,000 fundraiser. With 163 participants, there were 22 teams that participated in the 24 hour, overnight event. The idea behind Relay for Life is to stay awake and not sleep because the disease of cancer does not sleep or take a break. The team’s fundraising efforts included selling paper moons and stars to branch customers, and holding bake sales at the branches and at the event. The team’s overwhelming devotion to the community was displayed throughout the entirety of the event, as people took turns walking around the track, honoring lost loved ones and showing support for family and friends who have survived or are currently battling the disease.
