Heights Police Raising Funds to Help Little Girl

Hasbrouck Heights Police are hosting a pasta dinner fundraiser on June 2 to help raise money to get a seizure response dog for a youngster in need.

Young MaryBeth a Hasbrouck Heights students suffers from a severe seizure disorder and must be watched at all times. A seizure response dog would change all that, allowing her to play freely and even sleep her own.

MaryBeth has to be watched continuously even when she is in the shower or asleep. The youngster suffers from several different types of seizures and a also has a genetic disorder, a chomosomal deletion for which she receives several treatments from occupational, physical and speech therapy for her disabilities. She has been receiving therapy since she was just 10-months old.

She has been hospitalized three times alone this school year for treatment for her seizures and two 4-day video EEGs done of brain all showed several seizures per day.

The dog would change her life as it is trained to alert others when she is having a seizure and will also be able to do a deep pressure massage to easy her out of an anxiety attack.

The event is set for Sunday, June 2 at 3 p.m. at the VFW Hall on Veterans Place in Hasbrouck Heights. Tickets cost $25 or $50 per family. Raffle tickets cost $10.
