Heights-Bred Author Debuts First Romance Suspense Novel

Stefanie Miotto's "Moonstone Dreams" is the first in a trilogy

Stefanie Miotto has always loved to write  - since she was a youngster living in Hasbrouck Heights.

Now she is the author of a "roller coaster" of a romance suspense novel readers are they saying they just can't put down.

"Moonstone Dreams' is Miotto's first novel which she self-published this past May. The author says she always hoped she'd be a writer. In fact just this week she stumbled upon an entry in her high school yearbook where she put "writer" was she hoped to become one day.

Now 10 years later Miotto, who now lives in Garfield, is promoting her book at local events and book signings. She's hoping to set up more events in the local area this fall.

Over the years she would start writing parts of stories but would never finish them. Writing was always something that came naturally to her and she'd have fun writing stories which she'd share with friends from as early as 8 or 9 years old.

But for a long time she was too nervous to share her works.

"Writing a novel seemed so out of reach to me until I went to a seminar at Barnes & Nobles where I was inspired by a speak who said 'what is the point of writing something that is just going to sit in a drawer or a laptop'," said Miotto.

"I realized then that my writings were in a drawer and it made me realize I could do this and I had to try," she said.

Now she is writing every day. She is already working on book two in the trilogy and fans are already eager to see what happens to her main character Victoria Carlisle and the "roller coaster" she embarks on in the first book.

As per the book's description Victoria has what appears to be the perfect life and family but many dark secrets lie including an abusive marriage which leads to an affair.

Miotto dreamed up the characters and story but she has based it all in Bergen County where she grew up. She has also worked in other areas she's most familiar with like Montclair, a place she spends much of her time writing.

What she finds most rewarding is the feedback she gets from her readers. Miotto says she loves reading emails from fans. She hears from many that they either love Victoria or hate her based on the many ups and downs she goes through.

When she first started writing the novel she'd post parts of chapters on booksie.com a site where writers share their works and give feedback. Her writings got great responses and it inspired her to keep writing more and more.

Since the book has been out it's getting great reviews. It's currently available on Amazon.com and has a 4.9 star ranking. The book is also available at Bookends in Ridgewood
