Familiar Faces, Fresh Produce Returns to Farmer's Market

Both Asprocola and Pinrah Farms are back once again with their fresh produce. Johnny's Cookies, Craft O Land, Dr. Pickles, X-Calibur and more round out the weekly offering at the Heights Farmers' Market.

The Hasbrouck Heights Farmer’s Market is back in full swing with fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods, pickles and so much more every Tuesday at the . There’s even some vegan options this year as well as jewelry and handmade crafts.

Asprocola Farms based in Millstone Township is back again with the fresh produce  that people continue to come back for year after year. George Asprocola has been a vendor at this market since it opened.

Once again the Asprocola crew have set up tables piled high with tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and some special veggies like zucchini blossoms, heirloom tomatoes or some cacuzzi, or Italian squash. George says it’s important to offer some variety.

The other farm at the market, Pinhas Farm, is back again for the third year. Shirley Pinha says their farm is also based in Millstone Township. Both the Pinhas and Asprocolas know each other well.  Everyone knows each other in the farming business, says George Asprocola.

Shirley Pinhas says the most important thing is freshness. She says many people don’t really know what fresh is when they are used to buying produce in supermarkets.   

John and Roxanne of Johnny’s Cookie’s are back once again with breads and muffins and of course cookies. Johnny says they in the process of making mini-pies about 6-inches which they will sell soon. The business is based in Garfield and they supply baked goods to numerous places all over the state.  This is their fourth year at the market in Heights. Johnny points out it’s one of his favorites.

“The people in this town are simply marvelous and I’m thankful to them for buying from us,” he says.

Underneath a big banner that reads “Mediterranean Snacks” are Josh Williard and Sara Voorhees who have a large number of healthy snacks on display that are gluten-free and vegan. When asked what their T-shirts which display a big “LOL” mean they explain that  it’s short for “Like our Lentils” on Facebook. The company also carries a variety of lentil products.

Dr. Pickle has also returned carrying a variety of pickles including full sour, half sour, three-quarter sour with vinegar and sweet pickle chips. There are also pickled mushrooms and a variety of other items.

Aside from the eats there are also handbag, jewelry and a hair accessories vendor who are regularly featured at the Heights market. 

Once again Craft O Land is back. Olga Golubyeva, owner, carries handmade soaps, jewelry and handcrafted arts and craft items.

Scott Jennings of X-Calibur knife and scissor sharpening is back for a second year. He is on his hand with his sharpening devices and cutting boards which he has for sale. He can sharpen just about any knife except for small knives with a serrated edge.
