Visit the Hasbrouck Heights Free Public Library this month to see a collection of video game systems that date back to 1977.
The collection is on loan from Ryan Bender, a Bergen County resident and video game enthusiast. The display contains the highlights of his video gaming collection and also represetns the evolution and history of video gaming.
The Atari 400 and the Atari 2600 are in the display, and the old Nintendo system to name a few. The library staff says the collection will be of great facination for children who may not believe that remotes weren't always wireless.
Bender has been playing videogames most of his life. His collection first began with hand-me downs from relatives as well as receiving the systems and games as birthday and holiday gifts.
After college, he began to collect video game system more seriously. Some systems came from friends who were replacing or clearing out older gaming systems. More were added to his collection upon his marriage to another game collector and most recently he has been purchasing systems at yard sales.
The collection will be on display through December.
