In school news this week, the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education will conduct its regular public meeting Thursday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.

Patch will update on what is expected at the meeting once details are available. The meeting will take place in the middle school/high school media center.

Also the newly formed Collaborative Parents Committee which provides support and information for parents of special needs students in the district will conduct its first regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the middle school/high school media center.

The group got off the ground earlier this year and is now looking to spread the word and welcomes all parents to join.

Many Halloween activities are on deck this week.

Tuesday evening is the annual Halloween in the Park event, where Woodland Park will be converted into a haunted area where kids and families can have some spooky fun.

School youngsters will participate in the annual Halloween window painting contest this Wednesday.

Coming up this weekend the Junior Women's Club will turn Woodland Park into its annual Pumpkin Patch.

Also this Saturday, Oct. 20 the Mickey's Kids Foundation will host a special event at Shadow Food Mart on the Boulevard in support of Canine Assistants, an organization which breeds service dogs for young children in need.

On this Service Dog Awareness day, Mickey's Kids founders will make a special presentation to an area youngster with cerebral palsy whom they have sponsored so he can get a service dog. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
