Hurricane Sandy Strikes Hasbrouck Heights, A Recap

Parents received word Sunday that Hasbrouck Heights Public Schools and Corpus Christi School will be closed Monday and Tuesday this week due to the threat of Hurricane Sandy.


Thousands Without Power in Hasbrouck Heights Area

Power outages were reported Monday evening as the winds from Hurricane Sandy ripped through the borough taking out power lines and trees all over the area. Winds created a dangerous situation early in the day as severe winds caused the roof of an alumumin shed to fly off Central Avenue into a utility pole on the Boulevard.


Hurricane Brings Horrors to Hasbrouck Heights

Power is out all around parts of Hasbrouck Heights on Tuesday as the borough begins to pick up the pieces of the horrors which Hurricane Sandy left behind, on the eve of Halloween.

Hasbrouck Heights public schools were to stay closed Wednesday, Oct. 31 as the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy continued to affect the borough.


Some neighborhoods throughout Hasbrouck Heights were still without power, Halloween had been postponed, school closed for another day, borough offices are operating on generator Wednesday.

Residents can head to the senior center to recharge cell phones. Borough Hall reopened and is operating on generator power. Heights police confirmed Halloween trick-or-treating is officially off.


Hasbrouck Heights Continues to Move Forward in its Recovery

More neighborhoods got their power back Wednesday night including some of the businesses along Route 17 which could mean some more gas stations will be open Thursday.

Gas Demands Cause Gridlock on Rte. 17

Cars backed up for miles on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights to fill up their tanks as the gas shortage in the area continues.

Public schools remain closed Friday but will open next week with a half day on Election Day and full days on Thursday and Friday which were originally scheduled as no school for the NJEA convention.


Hasbrouck Heights Children Will Celebrate Halloween Monday

Hasbrouck Heights police say Heights children can take part in Halloween trick-or-treating this Monday, Nov. 5.

Heights Helps Out Moonachie Flood Victims

Hasbrouck Heights residents can donate items to help the flood victims by dropping them off at Wood-Ridge High School. Heights Fire and EMS has been lending a hand to the Moonachie First Aid team

More Power Outages Reported in Heights

By Friday evening the traffic light at Williams and Boulevard was back on and power was restored in the areas of Lodi and Heights which had reported outages earlier in the day.
