School Board Holds Off Approving Advertising Policy

Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education members say they will review communication received from the public concerning the placement of local advertising signs at Depken Field before taking the next step towards what could become an additional revenue source for the school district.

The board has been working to establish a policy for advertising on school property. No such policy had been developed previously as this is the first time the board is considering selling space to local advertisers on school property.

The policy was up for a second reading and approval Thursday night but the board decided to hold off on voting so it could review the communications from the public first, explained Board President Josephine Ciocia.

Superintendent Mark Porto explained the board plans to review the policy further and has plans to include specifications regarding where signs could be placed.

At a recent municipal meeting, two residents spoke out against the placement of signs along the fence stating that it would be a safety issue and could compromise the look of the neighborhood.

They were advised to address their concerns to the Board of Education directly.
