School Security Assessment Begins and More This Week

While district schools are closed this week the beginning of a security assessment is expected to begin, which will give the Board of Education and administration a foundation for which to work towards improvement security.

Since the the Hasbrouck Heights district immediately began working with police department and the borough on ways to tighten up security.

Police officers are now making visits to the school buildings as part of their patrols and some other measures were taken such as having a staff members escort visitors in buildings however some parents are hoping to see more improvements, including having a police officer on site.

Hasbrouck Heights Safe Parents for Schools have been making their voice heard at recent Board of Education and borough council meetings. Group leader Denise Ejgirt has told officials the group wants to work with the school board, police and town to find better solutions for their children, petitioning most for an officer on school grounds.

The parent group plans to have a meeting Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the borough hall to discuss ideas for the purpose of sharing them with the school board officials.

The Friends of the Library Chinese New Year fundraiser is coming up this Sunday.

School's out fun is at the library with a movie screening Wednesday and a Wii dance contest on Thursday.
