Students Graduate DARE Program, First 2013 Council Meeting This Week

A sneak peak into the week ahead in Hasbrouck Heights

Coming up this week on Patch

Hasbrouck Heights fifth graders will graduate the D.A.R.E. program this week during a special ceremony at the high school gym Thursday night.

Each year the fifth grade students at both Euclid and Lincoln elementary schools take part in the Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education program taught by Hasbrouck Heights Police Department's Sgt. Joseph Rinke.

The entire week will also be devoted to Drug Awarness as both schools will take part in activities designed to teach students about the dangers of drugs. There will be assemblies all week which will conclude with drug free rallies at both the schools on Friday morning.

Also this week the Hasbrouck Heights mayor and council will conduct its first regular public meeting for the new year on Tuesday night.

Also this week students in the borough will compete in the annual town-wide spelling bee presented by the Junior Women's Club. This 20th annual spelling bee event will be held at the high school auditorium on Friday, Jan. 11.

Judges include Mimi Hui, Director of the Hasbrouck Heights Public Library; Joe Sampieri, Board of Education Trustee and Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, NJ 38.
