'Friends' Make Library Programs Possible

Each week Patch highlights a community group or individual working to make a difference. Learn more about the Friends of the Library and the many things they do.

The continuously work to support the  public library and therefore the community since it was first formed more than 30 years ago.

Throughout the year the Friends hold fundraisers, such as the which is held both in the spring and fall, which enables them to financially support all programs at the library.  

Whether it’s providing refreshments for a movie screening, afterschool event, or prizes for Book Bingo and other fun activities, the Friends are always on hand at events. The group also works to provide special services and assist with library staff development. The Friends also purchase needed materials and equipment for the library.

Also the would not be possible without the support of the Friends. The group provides funding which goes towards the decorations, festivities and programs that presented each year.

The Friends have even extended their membership to welcome the youth of the community. Membership to the is open to youngsters ages 4 to 17. This gives youngsters the opportunity to get more involved with their library and is a good introduction towards community service.

The Junior Friends also host events throughout the year. Most the group sponsored the book signing and discussion with , author of “Freaky Friday.”

Over the years the Friends have also begun working with local businesses by establishing the Merchants program. A number of businesses in town participate by offering discounts to cardholders who take part in the Friends of the Library merchants programs.

The Friends say they always welcome new members. There are different levels of membership; brochures are available at the library’s circulation desk. Call the library for more information at 201-288-0484.
