Junior Friends of the Library's Third Annual Pizza Social

On October 3rd, the Junior Friends of the Hasbrouck Heights Library celebrated the beginning of the school year with their Third Annual Pizza Social and Movie Forum. This annual event opens the Juniors Fall Programming and the beginning of the Halloween holiday season.

The Juniors started the evening with a quick meeting, recapping some of our Summer events and discussing upcoming projects that the committee was working on. Members were greeted with a dessert table of Halloween treats that included decorated brownies, cupcakes and sugar cookies with a holiday motif. Bowls of Halloween candy topped off the dessert bar in the spirit of ‘Trick or Treating’.

In honor of the spirit of Halloween, we opened the evening with a double feature, Disney’s ‘Watcher in the Woods’ starring Betty Davis and Kyle Richards (members may remember that Kyle’s sister, Kim, starred in an earlier retrospect at our Ice Cream Social in the film, ‘Escape to Witch Mountain’). This classic Disney film follows the adventures of a family as they arrive at their new home with a mysterious past and the disappearance of the owner’s daughter many years earlier.

At the intermission, the Junior Friends and their guests enjoyed a pizza dinner catered by Tuscany Touch Restaurant, whom are a member of our ‘Merchants Program’ and a great supporter of the Junior Friends. Members and their guests got to socialize before the start of our second feature.

Our second feature film in our Horror Forum was MGM’s ‘Poltergeist’, starring Heather O’Rourke and Craig T. Nelson, which is seeing a big revival on the Midnight Movie circuit in New York City. This family film tells the story of the perfect house with the perfect family living in it and they become subjected to ‘things that go bump in the night’. A mystery surrounds the house’s location and there are many frightful twists throughout the film. Members jumped, yelled and laughed through our double feature. The Pizza Social was a perfect way for members and their guests to relax after a busy week of testing and school work.
