MEADOWLANDS BASKET BRIGADE TO BENEFIT LOCAL FAMILIES AFFECTED BY HURRICANE SANDY & FAMILIES IN NEED

East Rutherford, NJ – The Meadowlands Regional Chamber and its Building & Contractor Services Committee is bringing an international movement home to feed local families in need at Thanksgiving. The Meadowlands Basket Brigade is unique in that the beneficiaries of this year’s effort will again be local families who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy, primarily in Moonachie and Little Ferry, Carlstadt and Secaucus.

With help from the Meadowlands business communities, last year The Meadowlands Basket Brigade raised over $40,000 to provide Thanksgiving turkey baskets for 600 families victimized by Hurricane Sandy. This year we plan to build heavily on last year’s impact by serving 300 families.

A $42 sponsorship will pay for all the contents of one basket. Each basket includes a 13 pound turkey, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, tangerines, brownie mix, Hershey kisses, and fresh rolls. Each meal is assembled by volunteers and anonymously delivered on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Inside each basket is an anonymous letter that reads, “This comes to you from someone who cares about you. All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day.”
