Franklin and Boulevard Bus Stop May be Eliminated

Police say this would improve safety as the area is considered congested.

Borough officials are considering an ordinance that would eliminate the bus stop on both sides of the Boulevard at Franklin Avenue.

At the mayor and council meeting earlier this week, officials introduced an ordinance which states that the police department has advised that the intersection “has become a hazard to public safety and a hindrance to vehicular traffic.”

Police Chief Michael Colaneri explained this is being done as the area is quite congested and this is being done to improve safety.

He explained that other bus stops on the Boulevard such as at Division Avenue is less congested making it easier for other vehicle operators to see and get around a bus that is picking up and dropping off passengers.

Area residents who takes buses like the 163, 164 or 780 from Franklin can now leave from Division Avenue which is four blocks south or Central Avenue about  three blocks north near Borough Hall.
