A fraudulent $100 bill and a brief foot chase along Route 17 Tuesday night landed two Bronx men in the Bergen County Jail, Hasbrouck Heights cops said Wednesday.
Police charged Julio Oliveras, 22, with fraud and eluding officers. Najee Sanders, 18, was charged with fraud.
Detective Sgt. Michael Colaneri said the men allegedly tried to make a purchase at the Exxon gas station 7-Eleven just after 10 p.m. with the bill which later was determined to be fake.
The men got into a brief argument with a worker who refused to accept the bill as it is the store’s policy to not accept $100 bills, said Colaneri, before the worker alerted police.
Colaneri said Oliveras ran from officers Dominick D’Amico and James
Ciccarelli who stopped him and Sanders for questioning. After a brief
chase along the highway, Detective John Behr caught Oliveras.
According to Colaneri, the two men were found to have two fake $100 bills in their possession. A Secret Service investigator was called in to handle the fraudulent bill investigation, said Colaneri.
Bail was set at $20,000 each. Colaneri said they were in the county lockup as of Wednesday afternoon.
