Heights Police Officer Injured in Car Crash

A Hasbrouck Heights Police Officer was injured late Tuesday night when the patrol vehicle he was driving crashed into an unlit light pole at a parking lot on Route 17 South.

Police Sergeant Michael Colaneri, Jr. said Wednesday that Officer Brian Donahue is okay and suffered some minor cuts and bruises. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center following the accident. Colaneri said Donahue is currently being kept for observation.

The officers routinely drive into parking lots to check on businesses while on patrol, Colaneri said. Donahue pulled into the parking lot of a former office building, which is slated to become a hotel, to check the area.

Colaneri said the parking lot is not very well lit — the lot is undergoing construction — and Donahue's police vehicle struck an unlit pole on its side.

The police vehicle will need to be repaired before it can be driven again, according to the sergeant.
