Heights Police Taking Further Precautions Surrounding Halloween

In light of the recent reports of attempted lurings in other county towns, local police departments including Hasbrouck Heights are considering earlier curfews on Halloween.

Hasbrouck Heights Police are taking safety precautions for Halloween next week even further than usual in light of the recent reports of attempted lurings in parts of Bergen County.

More than a dozen attempted lurings had been reported in the past few weeks in nearby areas including Hackensack, Maywood, Ridgewood and New Milford.

Area police chiefs are reducing curfews on Mischief and Halloween night to 8 p.m. Hasbrouck Heights Police may consider an earlier curfew as well although no decision has been made yet. Normally the department sets a curfew of 9:30 p.m. on both nights.

Chief Michael Colaneri advises parents to not let children out on Mischief Night and advises parents to accompany children when trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Hasbrouck Heights Police already have stepped up patrols, especially in areas where children’s events or sporting events take place, according to Police Commissioner Justin DiPisa.

DiPisa stressed the importance of reporting suspicious activity especially in light of what has been happening in these other towns. He advises residents to report anything they would deem as suspicious activity to the police department.
