High School Student Charged With Robbery

Daniel Sung,18, allegedly forced another student to hand over a watch

An 18-year old student was arrested on school grounds Friday on robbery charges, after he allegedly forced a fellow student to hand over a watch, police said.

Daniel Sung did not use a weapon, but was charged with robbery instead of theft because of the manner in which he allegedly stole the watch, Chief Michael Colaneri said.

Colaneri said the police and school officials dealt with Sung severely, in part to send a message that no one should have to go to school in fear.

“We are not going to allow that to happen in the schools and I’m sure the school feels the same way,” Colaneri said.

Det. Michael Colaneri and Sgt. Joseph Rinke conducted the investigation into the incident after school officials notified the police, the chief said. Sung was placed under arrest Friday morning and transported to the Bergen County jail, where he was being held on $50,000 bail.
