Man Arrested on Assault Charge, Auto Dealership Theft Under Investigation

Police also respond to incidents of motor vehicle crashes

Police charged a hotel customer for assaulting two police officers early Friday morning.

Officers Paul Bassett and John Behr responded to a customer dispute call at the Hilton Hotel around 1:44 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17. The police blotter states the man jumped the front desk and proceeded to hide in the office area. Police say the male assaulted the officers and was then arrested on assault charges.

He was released on bail in the amount of $5,000 the next morning.

Police are still investigating a theft at an auto dealership which was reported Saturday, Dec. 19.

Around 1:48 p.m. police received a call from Meadowlands Nissan that a customer's vehicle was stolen after it was driven out of the service area. Police say the incident was caught on video surveillance.

In other police activity, officers responded to a number of motor vehicle crashes on Friday at various intersections including Route 17 and Franklin Avenue, Pasadena and Terrace, the Boulevard just north of the Route 46 overpass and Baldwin and Boulevard.

Friday evening around 7 p.m. Hasbrouck Heights police issued a warning to drivers that Route 17 North was closed due to a motor vehicle crash in Hackensack involving an overturned auto. Police provided traffic assistance as cars were being re-routed onto to Terrace Avenue.
