Two Injured in Multiple Car Accident on Route 17 South

Multiple car accident briefly shut down Route 17 South Friday a.m.

UPDATED 11:50 a.m. - Two drivers were injured in a multiple vehicle accident on Route 17 south Friday morning which briefly shut down the roadway after 10 a.m., police said.

Officer Ian Robertson of the Traffic Bureau said four cars were involved in the crash. A summons for careless driving was issued to the driver that rear-ended the first vehicle which caused a chain reaction, Robertson said. Two of the drivers were sent to the hospital to be treated and three of the vehicles in the accident were towed away, said Robertson.

Bergen County Police were on hand to direct traffic at the Route 17/Franklin Avenue intersection. Robertson said Route 17 was closed for about 20 minutes and traffic was re-routed at the Franklin Avenue exit back onto the highway.

The accident was cleared and the roadway reopened by 11 a.m. police said.
