Police: Pursuit Ended in Arrest of Male and Juvenile Female

Local, county and state police searched area

An 18-year old male and a juvenile female were taken into custody this morning by after the two suspects allegedly fled the scene of a car accident at Passaic and Terrace avenues, police said.

According to a statement by Captain John DeLorenzo, police received a call regarding an accident at the intersection stating that the two parties in the vehicle were walking away. When police officers arrived on the scene the pair was seen running south. Investigation revealed the vehicle driven by the suspects was stolen in Passaic on Feb. 9, 2011.

The juvenile female was apprehended by police shortly after the chase began and was released to her parents. Charges against her are pending.

But it took police a while to locate the male suspect, and in the meantime, residents in the area of Harrison, Columbus and Terrace avenues were advised to stay indoors.

Heights police, joined by Wood-Ridge, state police and the Bergen County K-9 unit, searched the area as helicopters flew above and was put on lockdown until about 10:30 a.m., when police caught up with the male suspect.

Keenam Walker, 18, of Newark was charged with receiving stolen property, burglary and resisting arrest. Judge Joseph Jones set bail at $50,000.

Walker was transported to the Bergen County Jail after failing to post bail.
