Police Investigate String of Burglaries at Four Boulevard Shops

Police say the incidents may be linked to others in nearby towns

Police are still investigating a string of "smash and grab" burglaries at four Boulevard restaurants early Sunday morning.

Captain Jack DeLorenzo said theand , which is right next door, were burglarized. Farther south on the Boulevard, restaurant was also burglarized around the same time, police say. Broken glass at showed an attempt was made but nothing was taken, DeLorenzo said. The pizza place is located just a few doors down from the Thai restaurant.

DeLorenzo said these burglaries are referred to as “smash and grab” incidents where the perpetrator will use a rock or a hammer to smash in a doorway, grab what they can and get out. Usually they are after cash, DeLorenzo said, which was the case in these incidents. He said a similar incident happened to the Subway restaurant on Route 17 south last spring.

DeLorenzo said that Sunday morning police received a call from a passerby who noticed broken glass at one of the shops. Officers responded and checked all the shops on the Boulevard. It is believed the incidents occurred somewhere between 3 and 6 a.m. Sunday morning, DeLorenzo said.

DeLorenzo said police will meet with officers from Little Ferry and Moonachie this week as similar incidents took place in those nearby boroughs that same night, DeLorenzo said. He said it could be a coincidence, but the other boroughs are close enough in proximity that the incidents could also be related. They will compare notes and see if there are things that match up to determine whether the incidents are linked or not, he said.
