Police Nab Alleged Burglar After Foot Chase

A 20-year-old Lodi man led Paramus police on a chase through a wooded area after allegedly breaking into a car at 24 Hour Fitness on Route 4.

Police chased a Lodi man through a wooded area in Paramus Friday after he allegedly broke into a car in the parking lot of a Route 4 fitness center.

Daniel Milano, 20, of Lodi was charged by  with possession of stolen property, resisting arrest by eluding and burglary, according to a statement. 

The pursuit began around noon just after police received a report of a theft from a motor vehicle at the 24 Hour Fitness, police said. The alleged theft had been witnessed by the vehicle’s owner, according to a statement from the police department. Upon responding to the scene, police learned the suspect fled the area.

A Paramus officer spotted the suspect running through the wooded area behind the health center. Police gave chase but lost the suspect on the border of Hackensack, according to the statement.  

A perimeter was set up by units from Paramus, Maywood, Hackensack and Bergen County police departments. Bergen County K-9 also assisted in the search.

A Hackensack officer located and apprehended the suspect, later identified as Milano, on Allen Street in Hackensack near the wooded area, police said.

Milano was turned over to and transported back to headquarters where he was charged. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail pending court appearance, police report.

Paramus Police said Milano was able to gain entry to the vehicle after stealing the keys from the fitness center’s locker room.
