Police to Begin Camera Surveillance to Stop Central Avenue Park Loiterers

A portable camera is expected to be installed this week, another will have recording capabilities.

Police may begin camera surveillance of as early as this week in response to ongoing reports of loitering and noise complaints in that area.

have who claim young adults have been seen loitering at the park late at night.  There have also been reports of noise complaints, littering and damage to the park surroundings.

Police have said previously they have stepped up patrols of that area and have ordered the cameras as another way of watching the area and recording the activity.

“We want to see when it’s happening and who is doing it,” said Chief Michael Colaneri in regards to the complaints. When asked if there have been problems recently, the chief explained that there was “some damage” found at the park area the other day. He did not believe there have been many other complaints recently.  

The chief said a solar-powered portable camera may be installed as early as Wednesday weather permitting. A camera with recording capabilities will  also be installed on the municipal building directly across from the park, the chief said.

Other areas around the borough already have surveillance cameras. The chief said the Board of Education has cameras at both high school fields. He plans to get one for Woodland Park in the near future.
