Police advise motorists of lane closures planned for part of Route 17 South beginning Tuesday morning due to emergency repair work to fix a collapsed sewer main pipe.
Chief Michael Colaneri says beginning 9 a.m. Tuesday the “fast” lane and middle lane on Route 17 South in the area of will be closed due to these emergency repairs.
Traffic will be diverted onto the right lane and shoulder, the chief said. The lanes are expected to be closed for about 48 hours or until the work is done, he said.
Borough Engineer Ken Job told the mayor and council last week he anticipated emergency work would be needed as inspection had revealed problems with the sewer pipe. He reported that inspection revealed there was significant settlement above the pipe and bulging of the roadway was visible. Job said urgent attention was needed as the broken pipe could cause serious problems for businesses in that vicinity of Route 17.
