Field Fence Work Planned for Fall

Improvements at , which have been in the works for some time, are getting underway and expected to be completed this fall.

Borough Engineer Ken Job told the mayor and council Tuesday that requests for proposals for the new fence planned for the Franklin Avenue side will go out this week. He believes the council will be able to award a contract in early August.

Much discussion took place previously over to put up at Franklin. Officials surveyed the neighborhood residents several times finally resulting in the decision to put up decorative fencing which will resemble the black iron fence which is currently on the Oldfield Avenue side.

Job said other improvements include the paving of the parking area for ambulances on the Franklin side and some miscellaneous drainage improvements will be done to protect the field from water that tends to come down from Ravine Avenue, something the Board of Education had wanted fixed for some time.

Last month officials made the decision to have the when the new fence goes up. Due to their proximity to power lines PSE&G will need to come in to remove the trees. A timeframe for when those trees will come down was not given.

A specific timeframe for the overall project was not provided however Job said that they will plan the work in accordance with the fall sports schedule so as to not interfere with the games.
