Heights Looks to Create Cellular Communication Facility

Hasbrouck Heights has been taking steps towards leasing space at the Public Safety Building on Hamilton Avenue to prospective cellular communications companies which may be in need of the location.

According to Borough Administrator Mike Kronyak, this is something the borough has been exploring for some time. Over the past several years the borough has been approached by cellular communications companies interested in leasing space.

The process of putting together specs for this was not an easy thing and therefore took the borough some time, Kronyak explained.

The borough did not receive any bids when it went out for proposals last month. It is not known why the borough did not receive any bids at this time, Kronyak says. The next step is for the borough’s cellular committee to review the specs to see if any changes should be made if the borough wishes to go out for proposals once again.

The borough is looking to lease the space for no less than $118,000 per year. Kronyak specified that this would be for flat panel antennas on the roof, not a cell tower, Kronyak explained. He doesn’t believe there is any room for a cell tower in this borough.

The borough’s Public Safety Building, which houses the police department, fire and EMS and municipal court, would provide a good location for such use as it is at a higher point in the borough on the top of the hill and the building is accessible 24 hours a day, he explained.
