Officials Revisit Plans for Athletic Field Upgrades

New fencing will be installed around the field

Borough officials will work with school administrators to revisit the plans for the athletic field upgrades, which includes new fencing, in order to come up with a plan that fits within the project budget.

The borough has approximately $150,000 that can be spent on the project, half of which comes from an open space grant and the rest which will come from the borough.

Mike Kronyak, borough administrator told Mark Nazarro, school board trustee, at the recent work session meeting, that the most recent updated quotes for the work would cost more than $150,000 if they were to replace the fencing and put in a pavilion over the seating area near the snack stand.

Going forward they will need to pick and choose among the needed upgrades to come up with a plan that fits within the project budget.

The borough is looking to replace the existing fencing with a material that is more like a screen, such as the type that surrounds Giants Stadium, officials explained at a recent meeting.

Borough officials including engineer Ken Job, Mayor Rose Heck, Police Chief Michael Colaneri recently met at the field to discuss the project Kronyak stated.  Mayor Heck suggested that a member of the school board should now be included in future meetings and Kronyak told Nazarro he would follow up with Dina Messery, school district business administrator.

Nazarro asked if the new fencing could possibly be put in before the start of the school year but Kronyak said that due to the tight schedule it was more likely that it could be done in the late fall.
