Principals Named For Middle, High Schools

Joseph Mastropietro has been appointed as the new middle school principal, Catherine Cassidy has been appointed assistant principal to the middle school/high school.

After a two-and-a-half hour closed session meeting, the board members voted unanimously to appoint the two educators to their new positions which will go into effect on July 1.

A group of parents and teachers who had waited the two plus hours to hear the board's final decision applauded the outcome. Antoinette Vignola, a parent, thanked the board members for their decision stating that they "made the right choice for the kids in our school district."

Both Mastropietro and Cassidy have been serving as for the middle school and high school since Dec. 1.

Mastropietro told Patch he is really excited and can't wait to start in the new position. Cassidy said she was very happy and thankful.

Mastropietro has been with the school district for nearly a decade teaching math at the middle school level and has also coached girls soccer. He has also served as supervisor for math and technology and the test coordinator for the district.

Cassidy has been with the district for more than a decade teaching history at the high school level. She previously has coached the girls varsity softball team and has served as advisor to the mock trial team.

Both Mastropietro and Cassidy have been working alongside Linda Simmons who formerly was the until she was appointed to an interim role last December overseeing both the middle and high school. She will officially on July 1, a decision which was made by the Board of Education this past January. 

Simmons took over at the high school level after former principal to take a superintendent position in another town.
