Heights Swim Club Team Record Jumps to 2-1

Final meet of the season will be Wednesday, July 24 against River Edge.

The Hasbrouck Heights Swim Club Aviators team has brought its record up to 2-1.

It was a busy week for the team with two meets in the span of 48 hours. Despite a disappointing loss to Ridgefield/Ridgefield Park, 267-208, the team came back with a very close and hard fought victory over Waldwick Swim Club, 225-214.

It marks the first time in seven years that the team has won more than one meet in a season.

“I am so proud of the swimmers for all their hard work,” said head coach Carly Muhlhahn.

The Waldwick meet was close throughout, with each team alternately taking the lead after each event - Individual Medley, Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. It came down to the last event of the evening, the Relays.

“What it came down to was the teamwork of the swimmers on the relay teams,” said Coach Carly. “It was those races that put us ahead and helped us come out victorious.”

“It was also the swimmers who stepped up to do events that they wouldn’t normally do, like the IM (Individual Medley) or Butterfly, to get us ahead with extra points,” noted the Coach.

To put the victory in perspective, the last time HHSC won more than one swim meet in a season, the younger swimmers, age five, six and seven, hadn’t been born yet, the Coach pointed out.

The last meet of the year, scheduled for July 22 against River Edge, was postponed due to the storms on Monday night.

It has been re-scheduled for Wednesday, July 24. The public is welcome to come out and support the team.
