Summer Fun for Everyone [PHOTOS]

Registered campers in the recreation summer playground program took part in Carnival Day on Monday.

There’s always lots for the kids to do in the recreation summer playground camp and Monday’s Carnival Day theme just took it up a few more notches.

Everywhere you looked around there were kids taking part in different activities – jumping in the bounce house, giggling and laughing as they made their way through the bounce-y obstacle course. Others waited patiently to take their turn tossing bean bags to win prizes. Others played basketball or ping pong or were content playing table games under the pavilion.

Carnival Day kicked off week three of the six-week summer camp program. Nearly 400 kids signed up for the program this year. Robert Brady, recreation director, said this was likely the most highly attended Carnival Day they have had yet. Brady said there is at least one theme day planned each week, and one or two trips which the campers sign up for in advance.

Every Friday is ice cream day which not only is an extra treat for the kids but it helps teach them about responsibility as they have to hold on to their own money and be sure to get their change back, said Brady.

Tuesday the kids who signed up will head down to Keansburg Amusement Park and a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure is planned for later this week. Coming up Wednesday is Olympic Day where kids can take part in sack races, water balloon throws and more.
