Girl Scout Troop Recognized for Reaching Out to Seniors

Thirteen girls from Girl Scout Troop 535 recently gave 20 hours spending time with residents at Regent Care Center in Hackensack.

Members of Girl Scouts Troop 535 recently went out of their way to bring smiles to some of the residents at the Regent Care Center in Hackensack and their volunteerism was recognized Tuesday night by the mayor and council.

All the girls were presented with certificates and statue awards for their volunteer work. Troop Leader Denise Wicki said it was remarkable what the girls accomplished, putting in 20 hours of their time to spend with the patients. She also acknowledged the girls' parents for driving them back and forth to the center, making it all possible.

The honored Girl Scouts are: Ashley Buckman, Gabriella Cano, Alize Collazo, Zoe Contorno, Heather Farrell, Isabella Impali, Julia Jureidini, Lianna Pacifico, Tionne Pommells, Hannah Sancilio, Olivia Sarracino, Katrina Stroedecke and Olivia Wicki.

Many of the residents at the center don't get many visitors so what the girls did was "truly a gift" to them, Wicki explained. She shared some examples from some of the residents they met at the center who enjoyed their time with the girls. One 99-year old resident told the girls she hopes to live to be 100 so that she can see the girls again when they visit next year, Wicki shared.
