Shelter Cats Get Extra Comfort From Heights Teens

Bethany and Brittany Manzo crocheted more than 60 blankets for the cats at the Bergen County Animal Shelter.

Bethany and Brittany Manzo have put a lot of time into creating some extra comfort for the cats down at the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro.

The Hasbrouck Heights teens visited the shelter on Sunday to give each of the cats his or her very own crocheted blanket which they both made by hand, to make the cats’ stay at the shelter just a little bit brighter.

The Manzo sisters, who are both juniors at , have been making blankets and donating them to the shelter for years but this was the first time they had made so many at one time – more than 60. The shelter staff took them around the shelter to visit all the cats giving them both a chance to personally place the blankets in the cages themselves.

Matt Craig, manager at the Bergen County Animal Shelter, said many people may donate items for the animals but no one has put this much time and effort into hand making items for them like the Manzo sisters have and the animals really love it.   It takes about an hour to make each one, the girls said.

Bethany and Brittany have plans to make more blankets which the shelter can use to place in the boxes the cats go home with when they are adopted.
