Established in 1896, the department has around 50 active members and answers hundreds of fire calls per year. The department also conducts fire prevention programs and assists with town-wide events. The 2011 fire chief is Kevin Todd.

The municipal complex is home to the municipal offices, library and senior center. The building was officially dedicated Dec. 14, 2003. Originally the borough offices, along with police and fire departments, were located on Hamilton Avenue. That building was destroyed in a fire in 1999, which was said to have been caused by an electrical problem.
The Mayor and Council meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month in the council chambers.

The Firemen's Memorial Park was founded in memory of the firefighters, police and emergency services who lost their lives. The park also features a memorial to the volunteer firefighters who have served the borough. This memorial was dedicated by the Hasbrouck Heights Volunteer Fire Department on July 4, 1951.
