Bow Tie Cinemas Agrees to Purchase Clearview

Cablevision sells 41 venues to Ridgefield, Conn. chain.

Bow Tie Cinemas of Ridgefield, Conn. announced it has purchased 41 Clearview Cinema theaters from Cablevision, a published report said Monday. With the acquisition, which will make Bow Tie the nation’s number 8 exhibition company, Bow Tie vows to pay for “key upgrades that are designed to enhance the movie-going experience,” including digital and 3D projection, according to a report on the website Deadline.com. Clearview currently has 26 theaters in New Jersey, the report said. Cablevision bought the venues in 1998 and put the chain up for sale last year. The companies didn’t disclose the sale price, the report said. For a full list of Clearview properties, click here.

Welp, I took advantage of the discounted tickets and definitely the free Tuesday night movies during the summer months. I really can't see paying full price for a movie now especially since I haven't seen a good movie since Forest Gump. Time to do some shopping.   more ›

Heights Academic Challenge Team Wins Round One in HS Quiz Show

The Hasbrouck Heights High School Academic Challenge Team competed on MSG Varsity's "The Challenge" quiz show for high school students.

The Hasbrouck Heights school community got to watch some of their very own on television Thursday night as the episode of MSG Varsity's "The Challenge" quiz show featured the high school's academic challenge team. The Hasbrouck Heights team made up of Connor McCabe, Connor Di Corcia, Michael Perez and Chris Sciancelapore racked up 355 points winning round one against Waldwick High Schoo which earned 280 points.  The show quizzed the students on various subjects from math to literature to current events, even music. Students Kushal Parikh, Ben Ker, Diggy Mehta and Darien Cheng are also on the academic challenge team. The team goes back in January to tape Round 2 of the show.

Academic Aviators Appearing on MSG Varsity Challenge Show Thursday

Watch the Hasbrouck Heights High School Academic Challenge Team compete on Cablevision's MSG Varsity "The Challenge" which airs Thursday evening.

Hasbrouck Heights High Schoolers will be featured on TV Thursday night.  Members of the school's Academic Challenge Team face off against Waldwick High School on Cablevision MSG Varsity's "The Challenge" show which airs Thursday evening. The 2012-2013 season of "The Challenge" features 48 high schools from all over New Jersey, according to the MSG Varsity website. Hasbrouck Heights was selected among a handful of Bergen County high schools to compete on the show this year. Catherine Cassidy, assistant principal, says the students won this first round which they taped recently at Metropolis Studio in New York City and they will go back to compete in the next round in January. Cablevision to Carry NFL Network

The network debuts Friday.

Cablevision and the National Football League on Thursday announced a multi-year deal that puts the NFL Network and the NFL RedZone channel on the cable operator's television lineup for the first time. Competitors DirecTV and Verizon FiOS already carry the stations, which broadcast all sorts of football-related programming, including regular season Thursday night games. NFL Network will be available in both standard-definition and HD for customers who subscribe to iO Preferred, iO Silver, iO Gold or the iO Sports & Entertainment Pak. NFL RedZone, which airs on Sundays throughout the regular season, will be offered in both standard-definition and HD as part of the iO Sports & Entertainment Pak, which is now included in the new iO Gold …

National Honor Society Recognized for Charitabe Work

National Honor Society students at Hasbrouck Heights High School were recognized for their participation in the MSG Varsity/Cablevision Power to Learn Charity Champions program during the Relay for Life Kick-Off event held at the high school media center this week.  A $1,000 check was presented to the students for their charity of choice, the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life. A $500 check was also presented to the school for furtherance of the students’ planned charitable activities. District 38 Assemblywoman Connie Wagner also participated.
