Heights Election: Gonzalez, Buckman Run Again, Skiba Will Challenge

Hasbrouck Heights council candidates filed their petitions to run in the June primary.

Hasbrouck Heights Republican council persons Sonya Buckman and David Gonzalez will seek re-election in November, while former councilwoman Carol A. Skiba plans to run for a council seat on the Democratic ticket. All three filed their petitions prior to the 4 p.m. deadline Monday for the June 4 primary election. Buckman and Gonzalez seek third terms on the council. The pair was first elected in 2007 and again in 2010. Gonzalez has served as fire commissioner, as well as streets and sanitation commissioner and Buckman continues to serve as recreation commissioner and is also the council liasion to the library. Lipari, Semenecz Take Their Seats on the Council

Republican Councilman Russell Lipari begins his second term on the council; Democrat Christian Semenecz joins the council once again.

Surrounded by family, friends and numerous members of the community, Russell Lipari and Christian Semenecz were sworn in as Hasbrouck Heights councilmen on New Year's Day. Semenecz was joined by his wife Jayne and several family members as Mayor Rose Heck administered the oath of office. Semenecz,  who formerly served as a councilman in the late 1970s, is the first Democrat to be elected in Hasbrouck Heights in a number of years. Semenecz pledged to work hard and thanked his wife, family and the community. He is also a long time volunteer with the borough's fire department and former fire chief. Lipari, a Republican, once again thanked the public of Hasbrouck Heights for re-electing him. This will be his second term on the council. His …

Kudos for Softball Champs, Project Updates on Council Agenda

Agenda for the Tuesday night Mayor and Council meeting includes a presentation to the Recreation department's 12U UGALS team. Latest on planned projects such as the athletic field improvements will be discussed.

Hasbrouck Heights officials will honor the recreation department's 12 UGals team with certificates of achievement during the Tuesday night council meeting. The team won the championship in the competitive UGALS Summer Classic Tournament in Bergenfield this summer and also completed the season undefeated with a 17-0 record. During the work session meeting Tuesday, discussion regarding remaining steps involved in the recent construction of new sidewalks along the Boulevard is planned. Also a construction schedule regarding improvements planned for Depken athletic field is expected to be given Tuesday.
