Heights HS Pilot's Log Wins Best of Show Award

High school students and faculty recently returned from the annual National Scholastic Press Association conference in San Antonio.

The Hasbrouck Heights High School Pilot's Log has done it again. The high school student newspaper once again earned a Best of Show award at the National Scholastic Press Association competition at the fall national high school journalism conference this month. The Pilot's Log earned a Best of Show award for its special edition on coverage of Hurricane Sandy. Hasbrouck Heights took second place in the category. "Winning Second Place in Best of Show competition for our Special Edition Magazine about Hurricane Sandy was truly special.  Because we thought getting New Jersey's story out at the National Scholastic Press Association Convention about the devastation here, the students managed to produce a 12-page magazine in just four days," said…

Pilot’s Log Competes in National High School Journalism Competition

Students on the high school newspaper staff are currently in San Antonio, Texas for the national high school journalism convention.

The Hasbrouck Heights High School students newspaper, The Pilot's Log, has once again entered into the national high school journalism competition. Superintendent Mark Porto announced Thursday night that five students of the Pilot's Log staff along with faculty advisor Lora Geftic and vice principal Catherine Cassidy are currently in San Antonio, Texas attending the National Scholastic Press Association Fall National High School Journalism Convention. Last year The Pilot's Log won "Best of Show" prize at this national convention. This year the high school entered one of its issue for national recognition along with a special edition issue just on Hurricane Sandy coverage which Porto called "a remarkable issue."
